Feeding Raw

As I stated on my front page, we believe in feeding raw.  Some people (vets) can give you all kinds of grief for doing this.  (I have been in a couple good arguments with them) If this is something that you really want to do for the health of your dogs, DON'T back down.  I have had the BEST results since I started.  Coats, teeth, and their general health are fantastic.  I do feed just a handful of a dry kibble.  Taste Of The Wild, Pacific Stream Formula I find this is a very nice dry kibble. It gives a bit of variety.

Feeding raw can be as easy or as hard as you want it.  We start out simple.

Here is a samply of some of the foods we feed.  All meats are raw, NEVER cook the chicken.

Chicken backs (we get ours at White Feather Farms)

Chicken livers (grocery store)

Whole Eggs (puree shells also)

Ground beef with organ meat (processed by a local butcher, Twin City Meats)

Venison (knowing hunters is great)

Sardines (great Omega oils)

Plain Yogurt (for good gut bacteria)

Various fruits and veggies Purees (No tomatoes, grapes, onions)

Flax oil

Each meal is varied slightly.  Daily they get chicken backs and ground beef mixture and flax oil.  I will on different days add eggs, venison, sardines or chicken livers.  And no, this does not mess up their stools. By The Way, as a side note, the dogs utilize this food so much better that there is hardly any stools to pick up in the yard!!!

I again will vary the yogurt and fruits and veggie purees on different days.

There are a hundred different books and many different references for this.  This is not a total science.  You will also have to see how your dog does on this. I can tell you I am a believer in this diet.  My dogs coats are beautiful and glossy. Their teeth sparkle.  NO tartar.  Abundant energy and they absolutely love it.

Again, I have only been doing this for 16 months, and just recently I found a book that I will recommend highly.  It is Dr. Becker's Real Food For Healthy Dogs and Cats.   We do not follow this book exactly, but many of our practices are in this book.  It is fantastic.
